How to Keep Your Clubs Performing All Summer Long

Simple ways to keep your equipment dialed in—round after round.

By Lenny's Staff

By early summer, you’ve hopefully already logged a handful of rounds. That’s great for your game—but it can start to take a toll on your gear.

If your shots feel inconsistent or your clubs aren’t performing like they did in early spring, it might be time for a quick midseason check. Here are five simple ways to keep your clubs in peak condition all summer long:

  1. Check your grips
Worn grips can lead to tension, poor contact, and less control. If they feel slick or shiny—or you can’t remember the last time you replaced them—it’s probably time for a regrip.

  2. Clean your grooves
Dirty grooves reduce spin and control, especially on wedges. A soft-bristle brush and warm water go a long way. For heavily worn grooves, you may want to consider a replacement.

  3. Watch for wear patterns
Look at the face of your irons. If impact marks are consistently toward the toe or heel, your lie angles may be off. Book a custom fitting to get them checked and adjusted.

  4. Protect your clubs in the bag
Bag chatter from walking or riding can damage shafts and clubheads. Consider using headcovers (especially on your irons or putter) to protect your gear and extend its lifespan.

  5. Reevaluate your setup
If you’ve improved or changed your swing—even slightly—your gear may no longer match your motion. A midseason fitting can help make sure your equipment is keeping up with your game.

Key takeaway:
You don’t need new clubs to play better—you just need to take care of the ones you’ve got. A quick midseason check can help protect your investment and keep you confident from tee to green.
